The current crisis has undoubtedly highlighted the importance of active citizenship and the respect for fundamental human rights, such as the freedom of speech.
The Cyprus Refugee Council, partnered with several other organisations of the Anna Lindh Network, through the BeMyVoice project. in an effort to raise awareness on the difficulty of marginalised groups, such as refugee women residing in Cyprus, to express themselves freely on their struggles and challenges they may face.
So far, two workshops were organized in Cyprus. The first offered the opportunity to refugee women to anonymously submit statements on the topic of freedom of speech. Statements collected in all partner countries, including those from Cyprus, were then shuffled and redistributed back between partners for the second workshop. The statements were used as a basis for the second workshop, where participants, refugee women, were supported to produce artistic representations of the statements, as a form of ‘artivism’.
We are happy to share below the amazing poster collages produced by our participants last month!
