Income Inequality

Income inequality refers to imbalances in the distribution of income or wealth among individuals in a society. This results in some people having more income while others have less. Income inequality can be the source of many social and economic problems. This difference between high income and wealth groups can hinder social mobility and equality of opportunity. It can also limit access to basic needs for low-income individuals and families, impede access to critical services such as education and health, and lead to social unrest. Following this general information, I would like to talk about the income inequality experienced by young people in my country. As a 22-year old young person living in Turkey, I see income inequality every day in the news, on social media and even with my own eyes. Some people start life with a much more advantageous start than most of us. For example, the car that the son of a bureaucrat drives, maybe many of us will not have those opportunities even if we work for years. Of course, they are ahead of us in terms of many opportunities, not just cars. For example, education, sports, I think they have an advantage in many areas such as psychology, living conditions. We are not even on equal footing before the law. The articles in our constitution always work differently for the son of a business person. Even for a bureaucrat of a foreign country, the laws in our country may differ. For example; the son of the President of Somalia can easily get away with murder in our country. This incident also showed that the cost of a person’s death in our country is 27,000 TL (€768).
